Let’s go back to our first love

Those who have ever disciplined themselves in terms of eating well and exercising but fell off along the way have only one wish; that is “to go back to their first love”, the old ways that gave them all the good health and wellness vibes.

I am here today to encourage you to go back to those old habits because there is nothing like taking good care of oneself. Those who have ever left a loving relationship for one reason or the other but then found themselves in a new one, which offers no good that can be compared to the former are the ones who will understand what it means to go back to one’s first love.

Eating well must be a lifelong affair, but many people are only able to attempt it for a short period, some for reasons beyond their control and others for reasons they do have control over. I remember how patients used to ask me this question after their diet consult sessions; “So how long am I going to be on this diet”. My normal response was “Oh this is actually how God wants you to eat but you didn’t know, so it is going to be for life”.

Only a few can deny themselves of the seemingly good taste of unhealthy foods, and so they go back to them after a while. We should however be reminded that the good tasting food eaten today shapes a future of disease and disabilities.

If you have ever been at a place of having control over what you eat but fell off, never hesitate to go back there. That is where you belong.

It is worth noting that the best time to control how you eat is not when you have a disease or condition which requires dietary restrictions but when you are healthy, fit and strong. By so doing, you can avoid or delay the onset of bad and lifelong diseases. A stitch in time they say saves nine. Prevention is also better than cure.

Even though some dietary interventions can be stopped after the conditions that demand them are gone, most of what we need to do to stay healthy are lifelong. The benefits they give to the body are soon gone when one stops taking those steps. But when changes to your food and exercise habits make you feel better and stronger, maintaining those changes should be a thing that we should be looking forward to. What this means is that everyone must work towards being consistent in their healthy living journey. So, no matter where you find yourself, make healthy eating and exercise habits a way of life.

If you ask those who do well with their diet and exercise lifestyles, you will notice that they have gotten used to their regimes. The only way to get used to these lifestyles is to keep practicing them, as time goes on, you will get used to them.

It must get to a point where eating well and exercising does not become a chore but an activity to look up to.
